Adult Formation Opportunities

Retreats & Workshops

Group Retreats

The Diocese offers and promotes numerous group retreats and workshops for adults throughout the year, facilitated by various groups and ministries. Every spring, the Bishop offers "The Good, the True, & the Beautiful" Creativity and Storytelling Retreat for adults at Camp Capers. The Commission for Women's Ministry offers Fall and Spring Women's Gatherings celebrating practical wisdom to deepen the spiritual lives of women across the diocese. During a Cursillo weekend, which take place four times throughout the year, participants engage in study, reflection, fellowship, and worship, giving them the tools and "rules of life" to enthusiastically share the joys of knowing Christ with others in their everyday environments.

Personal Retreats

Personal retreat spaces are available for individuals to take a break from everyday life for prayer, meditation, reflection, and personal study.

The Sol Y Sombra quiet house, located at Camp Capers, is available for individual retreats for one or several days. The space is available from August - May. The quiet house consists of a bedroom with two beds, fully equipped kitchen, full bathroom, and living room. Guests provide their own food and other needs. For fees and to make a reservation, contact Leigh Saunders at leigh.saunders@dwtx.org.

Casa de la Playa is a one room suite, located at Mustang Island Conference Center, for individual retreats of one or several days.  The space is typically available from August - May. Guests are responsible for their own meals. For costs and to reserve the room, contact Leigh Saunders at leigh.saunders@dwtx.org.

Individuals and families are welcomed onto the grounds of Cathedral Park in San Antonio to reflect, pray, play, and connect with nature. The meditation paths, sitting benches, and open spaces at Cathedral Park offer quiet places to experience creation through the senses of sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch. Visitors may wander the grounds at their leisure or visit one of the meditation spots around the campus: the Pergola of Hope and Trinity Fountain, the Columbarium, the open space and benches behind Chapel House, the Nature Trail, or the Pavilion.

individual Formation & Study

Adult Christian Formation Resources

Individuals, small groups, and congregations will find studies that offer inspiration and guides for Christian life on the Adult Christian Formation website. Bible studies as well as seasonal and topical studies are presented with deep background and context, along with suggestions for application to everyday life.

Spirituality in the Wisdom Years

Recognizing that as the physical dimension of life diminishes the spiritual dimension commonly increases, Spirituality in the Wisdom Years offers a guide for people in the last third of their lives. The older years of life are not just a preliminary to dying, but can become an invitation into a deepening relationship with God. These pages provide resources for individuals and congregations.

Education for Ministry

Education for Ministry (EfM) is a four-year spiritual formation program for adults, that was developed in the School of Theology at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. The EfM program provides people with the education to carry out the ministry to which they are called in baptism.
